The Mexico state (Edomex) government opened two new underpasses built on the Tecnologico and Las Torres avenues near Toluca city, which required an investment of 144mn pesos (US$11.2mn).

The new underpasses will allow traffic to cross the Toluca valley while avoiding city traffic, an Edomex government release said.

The project is part of a larger program to improve traffic in the Toluca valley, said Edomex communications secretary Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, adding that three more underpasses have been built on the route to Zinacantepec city.

More than 200,000 residents in Toluca, Metepec, San Mateo Atenco and Lerma municipalities will benefit from the project, the release said.
