Empornac reports 16% profit increase for 2006

Guatemalan port Santo Tomás de Castilla operator Empornac reported profits of 57.2mn quetzales (US$7.5mn) for 2006, a 16% increase on 2005, according to a government announcement.

Of last year's earnings, 20%, or 11.4mn quetzales, will be distributed among employees, and 8.6mn quetzales will be given to the Puerto Barrios, El Estor, Livingstone, Morales, and Los Amantes municipalities.

In 2005, the port transported 4.5Mt of cargo, 200,000t less than the previous year due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina, BNamericas reported previously.
