Peruvian rail concessionaire Ferrocarril Central Andino (FCA) plans on submitting a railway project linking Peru and Brazil to the Peruvian transport and communications ministry, local paper El Peruano reported.

FCA would carry out the project in association with Brazilian firm América Latina Logística (ALL), which runs railway systems between Brazil and Argentina.

The scheme would require a US$1.2bn investment from FCA for the construction of the 1,244km railway on the Peruvian side of the border, while ALL would be responsible for building the 2,000km railway in Brazil , FCA president Juan de Dios Olaechea was quoted as saying.

"Talks with the [Brazilian] firm are quite advanced and we're just waiting to show this project to the government and obtain approval to begin its execution," said Olaechea.

The system is of great interest for ALL as it would reduce transport costs for Brazilian soy production shipped to Asia.
