Peru's government is preparing an emergency decree to speed up roadworks in the Apurímac and Ene river valleys (VRAE), chief of staff Yehude Simon said.
The decree will allow local authorities to start maintenance works on existing roads within a month, while preparing technical documents for the roads that need to be built.
Simon announced the measure during a meeting with VRAE authorities and transport and communications minister Enrique Cornejo, state news agency Andina reported.
During the meeting, Cornejo said the decree could save up to two months in the process of awarding contracts.
The minister also said that priority would be given to the Etapa Quinua-San Francisco stretch.
