Only one company submitted a technical offer in the tender to build and operate Line 2 of the Dominican Republic's metro system in capital Santo Domingo, an official from public transport reorganization authority Opret told BNamericas.

The envelope containing technical offers was opened on December 14, while the envelope with economic offers is expected to be opened on December 16.

The tender is scheduled to be announced by December 21, the official said.

"For construction work to start, all contracts must first be formalized. It is expected that this legal process will take approximately one month," the official added.

The project will be developed as a public-private partnership. The awardee will operate the subway under a 30-year concession and is expected to invest at least US$200mn in the project.

Line 2 will consist of 28km of rail lines and 34 stations, stretching from San Luis in the east of the city to Los Alcarrizos in the west, intersecting with line 1 at Máximo Gómez station.

The city's projected metro system will eventually include three main lines and a secondary network of lines 4, 5 and 6.
