Paraguay's public works and communications (MOPC) minister Efraín Alegre announced a plan to invest more than US$300mn in capital Asunción, MOPC said in a release.

Approximately US$120mn will be used to restore the San Jerónimo neighborhood in the city center, to increase the number of green areas and to modernize the mass transport system.

At the same time, the government is investing around US$120mn in the completion of access roads to Asunción, and the construction of viaducts and the Costanera highway.

Meanwhile, congress is currently discussing a US$74mn loan for water and sanitation projects.

The US$300mn investment is part of Asunción's Plan 2011.
