MeneameAn updated timetable for projects that have yet to be launched from the US$1.51bn, 2002-2003 concessions portfolio of Chile's public works ministry (MOP) is expected in March, a ministry spokesperson told BNamericas.
The MOP and the finance ministry are reviewing the projects, for which interested companies have asked that the government increase its share of financing, said the spokesperson. The projects total US$650mn in required investment.
AIRPORTS
-US$10mn upgrade and operation of northern Region I city Arica's Chacalluta airport, which involves the modernization and expansion of the passenger terminal to 4,700 sq. m and operating the airport for 10 years. Chacalluta receives domestic flights and international flights from Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. Traffic is expected to reach 511,000 passengers/year by 2005.
-US$45mn new international airport for north-central Region IV, which involves a 20-year concession near Tongoy, south of regional capital La Serena, that would include a 3,500 sq. m passenger terminal, a 2.2km runway, taxiways and aprons with capacity for four Airbus A320 aircraft and a control tower. Traffic is expected to hit 430,000 passengers/year by 2005.
-US$48mn new airport to replace southern Region IX capital Temuco's Manquehue airfield, which involves the construction of a 5,000 sq. m passenger terminal, a 2.2km runway, an aircraft docking bay large enough for four Airbus A320 aircraft, airport equipment, control tower and buildings, a water treatment plant, airport access road, electric generator and fuel installations, pedestrian zones, landscaping and security.
DAMS
-US$104mn, 30-year concession to build and operate the Convento Viejo dam in Region VI, which involves a 230M cu. m reservoir to provide water to some 30,000ha of agricultural land. The reservoir also has tourism and power generation potential.
URBAN TRANSPORT
-US$120mn for four public transport nodes in capital Santiago (Quinta Normal, Gran Avenida, Pajaritos, Santos Dumont) that will connect taxis, buses, the metro and future light rail systems.
HIGHWAYS
-US$32mn project to connect the Americo Vespucio beltway and the El Salto intersection with Kennedy Avenue in Santiago's northeast through a 1.1km tunnel under San Cristobal hill to the under-construction Costanera Norte expressway.
-US$105mn concession to upgrade and maintain a 420km stretch of the Pan-American highway (Ruta 5) between La Serena and Caldera, which includes new paving, improvements to highway shoulders, construction of second lanes and slow traffic lanes, and an intersection at the turn-off to Vallenar, as well as general upgrades and emergency facilities. The project will also include a new bridge over the Elqui river, an overpass in La Serena and a new access route to Caldera.
-US$64mn, 15-year concession to upgrade and operate the 135km central highway 66 - also known as the fruit highway - that connects Region VI town Malloa with Region V San Antonio port.
LAND PORTS
-US$16mn concession to build the Los Andes dry port in Region V and operate the facility for 25 years beginning in 1H03. The project entails construction of customs, agricultural and livestock service centers, as well as health and police quarters. On the private-sector side, offices for customs agents, freight forwarders, financial services, restaurants and storage areas are planned.
