Chilean company Atacama Metals' environmental impact assessment (EIA) for a US$5mn exploration campaign at its property in northern region II has been approved, a source from the environment ministry's (MMA) regional evaluation office told BNamericas.
"The consolidated report on the evaluation process demonstrated the company was complying with all the requirements for the EIA to be approved. The evaluation service recommended that the regional committee approve the document, as it did today," the source said.
The company plans to kick off the six-month campaign in January.
The campaign aims at improving the geological knowledge of the property and eventually conducting engineering works for the potential development of a mining project.
Atacama plans to drill 10,000m in 34 holes with an average depth of 300m.
