Global stainless steel output increased 14.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2017 to 11.8Mt, according to figures from the Brussels-based International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF).
Stainless steel production in China rose 19.4% to 6.23Mt in Q2, and increased 6.5% to 1.99Mt in the rest of Asia.
Output in the US spiked 36.2% to 721,000t, while production in "others", which includes Brazil, Russia, South Africa and South Korea, was up 6.4% to 845,000t, the ISSF said in a release.
Output from Europe climbed 6.1% to 1.98Mt in the quarter, ISSF said.
ISSF is a non-profit organization founded in 1996. It is a division of the World Steel Association.
