Mexico's state oil company Pemex completed 15.4% fewer exploratory wells in 2011 compared to 2010, according to figures from an upstream regulator CNH report.

Pemex completed 33 exploratory wells in 2011, of which 16 were commercially successful. Ten of the successful wells were on land, and six offshore.

By comparison, the NOC completed 39 wells in 2010, of which 59% were successful.

According to Pemex's 2011 annual operation program , the company planned to complete 54 wells in the year. Of the 33 wells completed, only 13 were included in the program.

In the first three quarters of 2011, Pemex drilled 686 development wells, according CNH. Full year statistics for development wells were not available.

Mexico had an average 123 drilling rigs operating in the first nine months of the year.
