Uruguay-focused Petrel Energy will this week begin a 580km 2D seismic survey on the Salto and Piedra Sola concessions, with acquisition expected to take 10 weeks to complete.

The licenses cover a 3.5mn-acre (14,164km2) zone, the Australian company said in a release, adding that the 2D program will help define potential targets in previously drilled core holes that confirmed a robust oil system across most of Piedra Sola.

London-based Tullow Oil also announced it had completed the processing of 2,000km2 of 3D seismic data acquired in Uruguay, with seismic interpretation and geological studies underway to update resource estimates at the company's offshore block 15.

In related Uruguay news, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) will hold an event promoting state oil company Ancap's third licensing round, Ronda Uruguay III.

BNamericas will host its second LatAm Oil & Gas Summit in Houston, Texas, on September 10-11. Click here to download the agenda.
