Chilean construction firm Belfi presented the offer which requested the lowest state subsidy in the process to concession a new airport in region IX's Temuco city, an official from the public works ministry (MOP) told BNamericas.
MOP officials met on Tuesday afternoon to review the five economic offers submitted for the concession.
Belfi's offer requested a 404,713 UF (inflation-indexed units US$16.1mn) subsidy.
The other bidders were: Concesiones Aeroportuarias, comprising Constructora Brotec and Consorcio Infraestructura, which requested a 519,695 UF subsidy; A Port Chile-Icafal-Odinsa asked for a 451,965 UF subsidy; Arauco-Claro Vicuña Valenzuela-Con Pax-Trébol-Agua Santa requested a subsidy of 442,800 UF; and Consorcio de la Araucanía, formed by Besalco and Las Américas Administradores Fondos Inversión, whose subsidy request was for 544,500 UF.
Construction of the airport will require an estimated US$100mn investment and includes a 2.4km runway and a 5,000m2 passenger terminal, with three passenger bridges, among other buildings.
The initiative is part of MOP's development plan for region IX, which consists of supporting regional socio-economic development by promoting infrastructure initiatives to increase productivity and tourism, among other things, public works minister Sergio Bitar said to investors at the opening of bids.
The airport will be located 22km southwest of the Ruta 5 highway, from which access roads will be built to connect to the terminal, and will replace Temuco's current aerodrome.
The concessionaire will also be responsible for the airport's maintenance and operation.
The contract will be awarded for 20 years, of which the first three will be spent on the construction of the terminal, expected to open in 2013-14.
