Peru's railway system, currently operated by state-owned company Enafer, will be privatized during the first half of 1998. Peru has split the railroad into three companies for the privatization process: Ferrovías del Sur (Arequipa-Puno-Cusco section), Ferrovías del Centro (Lima-Huancayo) and Ferrovías del Suroriente (Cusco-Machu Picchu). Bidding rules have been published, Peru's Privatization Committee, Copri, announced.
Peru plans to sell the company's shares, as well as grant some assets in concession.
Enafer is one of 21 state companies to be privatized in Peru next year in the energy, mining, transportation and finance sectors, the government announced.
