Korean firm Samsung is expecting to see strong growth in its PC sales of 30-40% in Latin America during 2013, Samsung Colombia's sales and marketing director Nicolás Bermúdez told BNamericas at the company's 2013 regional forum in Bogotá.
The firm is a relatively new entrant to the computing segment, but has already reached the number one spot in Brazil, Argentina and Chile in terms of market share.
Meanwhile in Colombia Samsung is the number two player, but is the leading provider in the retail segment, according to the executive.
The firm is currently two percentage points behind the leading player in Colombia in terms of PC market share, and expects to gain the number one spot during 2013, he added.
Although PCs represent a relatively new business line for Samsung, the firm has been able to leverage its computing products thanks to its strong reputation in other market segments such as home appliances and televisions.
In 2013 the company will continue to focus on premium products aimed at mid to high-range customers, while not abandoning the lower-end devices which are also seeing strong demand in the region, Bermúdez said.
Samsung is aiming to keep growing its market share in the region, including in countries where it is already the number one player, the executive added.
