Mobile digital TV users are expected to reach 21.3mn in Latin America by end-2013, according to a recent study by consultancy TVTelco Latam.

Of the total amount by 2013, Brazil is expected to have 12.5mn mobile digital TV receptors and Mexico will reach 4.7mn. Brazil has selected the Japanse digital TV standard ISDB while Mexico chose the US's ATSC standard.
TVTelco Latam director Ariel Barlaro told BNamericas that other important markets for the technology include Argentina and Venezuela, which are expected to select the ISDB standard.
Barlaro also said that approximately 90% of receptors would be in mobile phones while the remainder would be in MP4 devices, cars and laptops.
In addition, mobile phones manufacturers such as LG and Samsung already offer devices in Brazil which include mobile digital TV technology.
Samsung recently announced plans to manufacture low cost devices to run digital TV, said Barlaro, who believes these devices will cost around US$200.
