On July 7, 1998, the 20 turbines of the joint Argentine-Paraguayan Yacyretá hydroelectric complex, located on the Paraná River, began to turn for the first time. The project was thus finally completed, after the start of construction in 1983 and the gradual build up of operations since 1994.
