Lima-based Concesionaria Trasvase Olmos S.A. (CTO), a special purpose company formed in 2004 by Brazilian construction firms Odebrecht Participações e Investimentos S.A. (63.7%) and Construtora Norberto Odebrecht S.A. (36.3%), won a 20-year concession contract to build, operate and maintain the Olmos interbasin transfer project, located in the Peruvian region of Lambayeque. Awarded in 2004, the concession was to build a 43m high and 44Mm3 dam, and a 2,050 Mm3/y, 20km trans-Andean tunnel to transport water from the Huancabamba River from the Atlantic basin to the Pacific basin. Construction works ended in 2012, with operations and maintenance starting the same year. The Odebrecht Group also won the concession contract to build irrigation infrastructure for Olmos area, through another subsidiary: Irrigación Olmos. Once both parts are completed, they will irrigate 43,500ha in the Olmos district, both for agricultural and power generation purposes.
