Administración Portuaria Integral de Tuxpan S.A. de C.V., part of Mexico's communications and transport ministry, provides maneuvering services, including loading and discharging operations, movement of bulk cargo, yard and warehouses for the safekeeping of cargo. The company awarded the Tuxpan port terminal (TPT) project under a 20-year concession to port operator SSA México S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of US-based SSA Marine, with the possibility of extending the concession a further 13 years. The US$370mn terminal will handle containers, automobiles and general cargo at Mexico's Tuxpan port, the closest terminal to Mexico City. The project includes a 5,000m2 warehouse with specialized equipment for storage and handling steel products and less-than-container-load cargo, as well as an exclusive customs facility. TPT will be able to handle 900,000 containers per year. Construction began in mid-2013 and the terminal is expected to start operating by the end of 2015 or early January 2016.
