ITU approves new Brazilian proposal to combat fake mobile devices
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has approved yet another technical proposal submitted by Brazil to prevent the use of fake ICT devices.
According to Brazilian regulator Anatel, the ITU accepted International Recommendation Q.5050 "Framework for solution to combat counterfeit ICT Devices", which presents a proposal to combat the use of counterfeit terminals.
The ITU had already approved a Brazilian technical framework on the Internet of Things (IoT).
The new recommendation accepted is based on Anatel’s Celular Legal program to prevent the use of irregular and non-licensed terminals on Brazilian mobile networks.
The Brazilian initiative is aligned with the final version of the international recommendation approved in ITU's March meeting, Anatel said.
Brazil is the current VP of ITU's Studies Commission 11 and rapporteur of the “Combating counterfeit and stolen ICT equipment” working group.
