
14 groups prequalify for US$300mn Panama roadworks

Fourteen of the 15 groups that submitted documentation for a contract to repair and maintain the Panamerican East highway in Panama will advance to the next stage, the public works ministry (MOP) said in a statement.
The 14 companies are now prequalified and can present bids.
According to the process PRE-001-009-2022-RAPP-P1, companies from 11 countries filed documentation in September to participate in the tender. The 15 groups are:

Consorcio PAES – comprising Caribbean Basin Construction Corporation, Consorcio Remix and CTL Ingeniería
Consorcio CPA Consorcio – comprising Constructora MECO and Constructora MECO Panama
Consorcio La Gran Vía Panamericana, comprising Shandong HI – Speed Group and China CAMC Engineering (Panama branch).
Consorcio APP Las Garzas, comprising Yaviza (Mota Engil Engenharia e Construcao (Panama branch) and Mota-Engil México.
Consorcio Rehabilitación de la Panamerica Este – comprising GAMI Ingeniería e Instalaciones (Panama branch) and Centroequipos
Consorcio Panamericana Este – comprising Obrascón Huarte Lain and Cointer Chile
Consorcio API Movilidad – IMESAPI and Inversiones FJ
China Harbour Engineering Company
MOP did not specify which company was disqualified.
Last week, the ministry announced that that the project structuring is moving forward. The project was presented in 2021 and involves the 246km-stretch between Las Garzas in Panamá province, and Yaviza in Darién province. The works were split into three stretches.
The repairs stage is meant to last 1-2 years, to be followed by maintenance over 10-11 years.
Capex has been estimated at US$292mn.
