Alumysa expects to find partner this year

Canada's Noranda (NYSE: NRD) expects to find a partner for its planned US$2.75bn Alumysa aluminum project in southern Chile this year, La Segunda newspaper reported, quoting the project's general manager Robert Biehl. Alumysa, which is awaiting approval from environmental regulators, is designed to produce 440,000t/y primary aluminium. According to another report, the project, which has incurred the wrath of local salmon farmers and tourism operators, expects environmental approval by November 30 this year. The impact study was presented in August 2001.
