Audit court could extend power rates revision

Brazil's federal audit court could ask power regulator Aneel to revise power tariff adjustments to all power distributors which were granted power tariff increases in 2003, newspaper O Globo reported. In May, the audit court published a report saying that the increases Aneel granted to power distributors Eletropaulo, Cemig, Cerj and Light were too high because the regulator did not take into account tax discounts in its methodology. Aneel said it had already hired University of Brasilia Foundation (Fubra) to review its tariffs methodology. Aneel granted tariff hikes to 17 companies in 2003, O Globo reported. Public ministry representatives in Rio de Janeiro could make Light and Cerj refund the difference to its clients, the newspaper said.
