Buenos Aires province's environmental policy department has closed industrial waste treatment company Hera Ailinco due to the "high contamination risk" found by department technicians at the company's plant in Zárate, the provincial government reported. Technicians confirmed, among other items, the presence of drums at Hera's open-air landfill containing residues of substances such as solvents, tar and paint. Samples of liquid waste from the landfill, groundwater and surrounding area were taken. Hera Ailinco is a subsidiary of Spanish environmental services company Hábitat, Ecología, Restauración Ambiental (Hera) that has a presence throughout Latin America. BNamericas contacted Hera by e-mail regarding the news, but by time of publishing there was no reply.
