Cambior flies over properties

Canadian miner Cambior (TSX: CDE) has recently conducted airborne geophysical surveys over its properties in Peru, company officials in Lima and Canada told BNamericas. The company flew over its properties in a helicopter to collect information, including electromagnetic and magnetic data, which will provide it with an "additional vision" of the geographical structures, said André Gauthier, Cambior's Andean exploration manager. Cambior's portfolio of properties in the country include La Arena/El Toro gold projects in the Huamachuco area of northern Peru's La Libertad department and Zonanga and Incahuasi in the La Granja area of Cajamarca department. The Quebec-based company completed a diamond drill program on El Toro in November and is due to start drilling La Arena shortly, according to Gauthier, who declined to provide further details. Cambior spokesperson Robert LaVallière said the company would be releasing the results of Peru exploration work in the first quarter of next year, stressing the company remains "very active" in the South American country. La Arena was the subject of intense exploration by Cambior at the end of the 90s that outlined a resource of about 400,000oz of gold. El Toro is close by and has similar geology to La Arena, characterized by low-grade open-pit heap-leachable deposits, said LaValliere. Cambior set a US$3.68mn budget for its exploration activities in Peru at the beginning of this year.
