Copasa renews contract with Martinho Campos, pledges US$3mn

Brazil's Minas Gerais state water utility Copasa has renewed a 30-year contract for water and basic sanitation services with the Martinho Campos municipality, Copasa said in a release. The utility pledged investments of 6.7mn reais (US$3.13mn) to improve infrastructure in the coming years. Planned works include 5.7mn-real upgrades to collection pipelines in the Ibitira district, with 1mn reais allocated for upgrades to the water distribution system throughout the municipality. Martinho Campos will also transfer to Copasa responsibility for basic sanitation services in the Alberto Isaacson and Buriti Grande districts. Approximately 17,000 residents will be effected by the works in Martinho Campo, which is located 170km north of state capital Belo Horizonte. Copasa provides water services in 583 municipalities and sewerage services in 84.
