Firms emphasizing storage, security

Mexican companies are spending more on data storage and security measures as a result of new laws and the threat of terrorist attacks, according to local newspaper El Informador. "The Mexican market is growing. We have seen other places in the country which are opening up outside the northern states where we had been paying most attention. Currently there is a significant need for backup solutions in other cities in the interior of the country, especially among the small and medium enterprise (SME) segment," Vidal Luna, channel manager at US storage firm Veritas (Nasdaq: VRTS) was quoted as saying. Increasing Mexican investments on security and storage have also been seen at US storage firm Network Appliance (Nasdaq: NTAP), according to Ricardo García, the firm's Mexico and Central America director. The growth in the storage market has resulted from the growth in information generation, prompting many companies to target this area. Also contributing to the growth of this market are laws such as the US Sarbanes-Oxley Act, which require companies to store more of their corporate information.
