Govt. to Introduce New Gasoline Tax

Venezuela's government will introduce a new tax on gasoline sales to replace existing government charges and give retailers the opportunity to make "a reasonable profit," energy minister Ali Rodriguez announced at a press conference. Rodriguez said he would ensure that those with limited means would receive some sort of subsidy, and that the government would continue to support and promote the use of alternative fuels such as natural gas.
