Kuntur begins gas pipeline EIS, route survey

Kuntur Transportadora de Gas has begun the EIS for its US$1.2bn Gasoducto Andino del Sur natural gas pipeline project in Peru, company president Samuel Gómez announced. Walsh Perú will carry out the EIS work, state news agency Andina quoted Gómez as saying. The executive also said Meridian Proyectos has begun survey work of the pipeline's initial route. The pipeline will transport gas 1,085km across the sierra from Camisea in Cuzco department to Ilo port in Moquegua department. Offtakers include power and petrochemicals plants and more than 30 SMEs. The project will also benefit more than 1.7mn residents. Construction is due to start in the first quarter of 2010 and commercial operations at the end of 2012. New York-based private equity investment firm Conduit Capital Partners controls Kuntur, which has brought Brazil's Odebrecht on board for the project.
