Argentine ICT wholesaler Microcom Argentina has opened up a branch in Buenos Aires, online news source CanalAR reported. Company CEO Aníbal Fissore said the firm will establish a presence in the city through strengthening ties with channel partners. Until now, the firm had primarily carried out business in the interior provinces. *** The Brazilian division of Japanese security solutions provider Trend Micro (Nasdaq: TMIC) will be hosting a roadshow until March 26, online news source Baguete reported. The event, which will take place in the southern cities of Porto Alegre and Caxias do Sul, aims to recruit resellers for the firm's Worry-Free Security product line. The product suite is geared towards SMEs with as many as 250 employees. *** Colombia's telecommunications ministry has put out a call for applications for doctorate degree scholarships in areas related to ICT, according to a statement. All interested applicants must be Colombian citizens, speak fluent English or another foreign language, have received both top grades at their undergraduate institutions and a letter of acceptance to a foreign university, and be willing to start studies between August of this year and May 2010. The scholarships will cover up to US$40,000 in costs during two years. *** Venezuela's Universidad Nacional Experimental de las Fuerzas Armadas hosted the country's first annual ICT conference on March 18-19, government-run information technology center CNTI reported in a release. The event gathered IT industry professionals and government officials, as well as students studying subject matter related to ICT.
