São Sebastião port executive project due next month

The executive project to expand São Sebastião port in São Paulo state is due next month, a spokesperson from the state's highway department (Dersa) told BNamericas. Dersa and engineering consulting firm Themag Engenharia inked the contract in February to draft the executive project, which entails drafting operational and engineering details, as well as providing environmental licensing support. According to preliminary information, the works will cost an estimated 50mn reais (US$18mn). Once state authorities have finished reviewing the project, which is expected to take through next quarter, a decision will be made whether the state government itself will carry out the project or through a public-private partnership, said the spokesperson. The project is expected to increase the port's annual cargo movement capacity to 1.5Mt from the current 400,000t. The new docking areas would be capable of servicing vessels of up to 100,000t. Sao Sebastião is 200km from state capital São Paulo.
