Select: IT market grew 5.8% in 2Q05

Mexico's IT market grew 5.8% in the first half of 2005 compared to the same year-ago period on positive sales in the retail, services providers and manufacturing sectors, Mexican IT consultancy Select said in a statement. Retail outlet sales grew 4.7%, services provider sales rose 5.4% while manufacturing sales climbed 6.7% compared to the six-month period of 2004. Positive numbers during 2Q05 for systems and accessories manufacturers offset negative figures in the first quarter. Service providers continued to see positive billing especially in the areas of tailor-made software, data centers and network integration. However, retailers saw the largest rise followed by distributors and value-added distributors (VARs). Wholesale channel sales rose impressively in 2Q05 to reach levels not seen since the first half of 2004. Select observed a 6% growth in IT, software and equipment services. In the equipment providers market, accessories and telecoms equipment providers saw important growth, particularly in sales of printers and cameras as well as voice accessories. On the other hand, server manufacturers saw a decrease in sales especially for non-Intel servers or 64-bit servers. The highest growth in the software industry was in the areas of applications, infrastructure and security. For the second half of the year, Select expects the positive growth to continue mainly on purchases of home technology (especially for school work) and technology acquisitions by the government that is normally seen in the second half, Select said.
