Superintendent: M & A to Continue Through 2002

The merger and acquisition process in Paraguay's financial system should continue for another year before the system is fully consolidated, Paraguay banking superintendent Carlos Jose Pecci told BNamericas.com. Pecci believes that large banks will continue to pick up smaller ones having problems competing on their own, and he also sees medium-sized banks merging in order to compete with the larger banks. Paraguay has 22 banks.
