Telecel expands broadband coverage

Paraguayan mobile operator Telecel has expanded its broadband infrastructure to several cities including Caraguatay, General Delgado, Presidente Franco and Pedro Juan Caballero, newspaper La Nación reported. To expand coverage to the first two cities the company used XL technology while to the remaining cities Telecel deployed WiMax wireless broadband, the newspaper reported. The company also said it has increased the speed of its broadband service in Ciudad del Este. Telecel said it has concluded a 160km fiber optic backbone deployment in capital Asunción. Telecel, a unit of European mobile holding company Millicom International Cellular (Nasdaq: MICC), operates its broadband service under the Tigo brand.
