Wiese Sudameris Jan-Sep profits soar 781%

Peru's third largest bank Banco Wiese Sudameris saw profits soar 781% in the first nine months compared to the same period 2004 on the back of strong revenue growth. Profits of 34.2mn soles (US$10.1mn) compared to 3.88mn soles in January-September last year, the bank said in a statement. Wiese Sudameris is Italian bank Intesa's last stronghold in Latin America, and has been the subject of intense rumors this year that it is looking to sell. The bank has so far denied all such rumors. Wiese Sudameris ranks behind Banco de Crédito del Peru and Banco Continental in terms of overall market share.
