Chile Watch: Appointments, EuroAmerica-Zurich talks

Chile's new finance minister Felipe Larraín named Arturo Tagle Quiroz as president of state-run lender BancoEstado.

Tagle was general manager of local commercial player Banco de Chile's parent company and director of life insurer Confuturo, part of Chilean construction chamber CChC.

He has also held roles within the local banking association Abif and the country's banking watchdog Sbif, the finance ministry said in a release.

The head of Chile's pensions watchdog, Osvaldo Macías, will remain in the post following the change of government, local paper Diario Financiero reported.

Macías joined the regulator in 2016 and his current term is due to end in 2019.

Chilean financial services firm EuroAmerica told local media that only its group and individual life insurance businesses were the subject of negotiations with Zurich.

The news follows a report that the company was in takeover talks with the Swiss giant.
