BNDES unveils list of biggest borrowers in transparency drive

Brazil's state-run development bank BNDES published a list of its 50 largest borrowers as part of a drive to increase transparency.

President Jair Bolsonaro pledged in his election campaign last year to improve transparency at state-owned banks.

The list shows that state-run oil company Petrobras is the biggest BNDES client, followed by jet maker Embraer, energy holding Norte Energia, mining firm Vale, and infrastructure company Odebrecht.

The names of the biggest borrowers and the loans they have obtained from BNDES will be permanently available on the bank's website.

BNDES said in a press release that the list will improve the user experience and make it easier for the public to see how the bank's financing is distributed.
