The Brazilian government concluded expansion works at Marabá airport in northern Pará state.

The government invested, through airport authority Infraero, 11.4mn reais (US$2.92mn), for example to increase the passenger terminal‘s capacity by 25%.

"It is a modern, comfortable and sustainable terminal. With it, we hope to attract new flights, and hope to be able to return to the region an international airport,” Infraero president Martha Seillier said.

The government is promoting investments in mainly remote airports to make them attractive for private investors in future auctions. Concessions for all airports under federal administration will be offered in coming years.
