Brazil crude steel output edges up
Brazilian crude steel production rose 0.5% year-on-year to 5.6Mt in January-February, according to industry association IABr.
Output in 2018 as a whole was 34.7Mt.
Domestic steel sales in the two months fell 0.7% to 2.82Mt, the trade group said.
Imports were up 1.3% to 380,000t. Apparent domestic steel consumption was 3.17Mt, sliding 1.2% from January-February 2018.
IABr did not publish export data for the period due to a change in the methodology used by foreign trade department Secex.
Home to steelmakers such as Gerdau, Usiminas, CSP and CSN, Brazil is Latin America's biggest producer.
