Brazil launches industry 4.0 chamber

Bnamericas

Brazil launched a multi-stakeholder chamber to outline policies for advanced manufacturing and intelligent industries.

The MCTIC ICT ministry along with the economy ministry launched the chamber, which includes corporate and academic representatives along with government officials. It will consist of four working groups focused on technological development and innovation; human capital; productive chains and supplier development; regulation, technical standardization and infrastructure.

At the launch, MCTIC executive secretary Júlio Semeghini stressed that the expansion of industry 4.0 requires an infrastructure expansion and broadband access to more than 2,000 cities in Brazil.

Advanced manufacturing is often associated with the fourth industrial revolution and refers to the trend of digitalization, automation, robotization and use of data analysis in manufacturing processes.

One year ago, at the World Economic Forum on Latin America, in São Paulo the country announced its strategy for industry 4.0, which included financing from local development bank BNDES.

ICT association Brasscom, telco group SindiTelebrasil and its electronics industry peer Abinee are part of the working groups announced on Wednesday.
