Brazilian mining firm Bamin plans major logistics push
Brazilian mining firm Bahia Mineração (Bamin), a subsidiary of Kazakhstan's Eurasian Resources Group, will step up its focus on logistics projects next year.
"In 2023, Bamin’s integrated logistics solution project will see an accelerated pace, with the start of works on section 1 of the Oeste Leste Railway (FIOL) and construction progress on the Porto Sul [port]," the company said in statement.
Bamin's investment in the projects will be around 20bn reais (US$3.84bn), an amount that includes the Pedra de Ferro mine in Caetité, Bahia state.
Pedra de Ferro started production last year with an initial iron ore output of 1.07Mt and Bamin expects to reach a production of 26Mt in 2026, when FIOL and Porto Sul come into operation.
FIOL will link Caetité to the coast of Ilhéus, where Porto Sul is being built.
Bamin said its logistic facilities will also serve other companies in the region.
"The integration and export logistics corridor is extremely important for mining and also for agribusiness, in addition to other production chains,” said CEO Eduardo Ledsham.
