Brazil's Bahia state LRT concession attracts 5
At least three Brazilian companies and two foreign firms are eyeing a 1.5bn-real (US$460mn) tender for the construction and 20-year operation of a light rail transit (LRT) system in Bahia state capital Salvador.
"The companies interested in the public-private partnership are Brazil's OAS, Queiroz Galvão and CCR, as well as South Korea's Hyundai and Siemens from Germany," a state government spokesperson told BNamericas.
The state issued the call for bids in early May and proposals are due June 30.
However, during a public hearing the five companies requested an additional 60 days to submit bids and Bahia chief of staff Bruno Dauster has instructed them to make a formal request to governor Rui Costa, the spokesperson said.
The LRT, which will replace the current suburban train line linking the Comércio and Paripe neighborhoods, will span approximately 19km, have 21 stops and benefit some 1.5mn residents.
The winner will be the bidder requesting the lowest annual concession payment from the state government, with the maximum set at 25.7mn reais.
Financing for the project is being provided by British financial management group Indico.
