British firm secures Chile LNG terminal engineering contract

Amec Foster Wheeler secured an owner's engineer contract to provide engineering services at Chile's Quintero LNG regasification terminal.

The London-based firm will participate in the engineering, procurement and construction bid evaluation, as well as providing engineering services, for a US$300mn expansion project at the terminal, a company statement said.

The contract was awarded by terminal owner GNL Quintero, which is majority controlled by Spain-based Enagás.

The expansion entails an increase in regasification capacity to 20Mm3/d from 15Mm3/d, and the installation of a third LNG tank with storage capacity of 150,000M3.

In a February presentation, Enagás called Chile "one of the most dynamic LNG import [markets] for the production of electricity, reducing costs and facilitating the integration of renewable energies."

CORRECTION: This story was updated on March 30 to correctly identify the nature of the contract awarded to Amec Foster Wheeler. It was an engineering services contract, not an EPC contract as previously stated.
