CentAm officials unveil details of Gulf of Fonseca master plan

Delegations from Nicaragua, Honduras and El Salvador met in Managua on Friday to review the progress made on a master plan for the development of the Gulf of Fonseca, on which all three countries have coastline, Nicaraguan government portal El 19 Digital reported.
Some of the investment projects that have been conceived for the Gulf area were presented at the meeting, including a strategic plan to develop a logistics and agribusiness corridor, a feasibility study on a plan to build a free trade area in the Nicaraguan department of Chinandega and a feasibility study to implement a tri-national ferry service.
Other projects presented include development of a tourism corridor in the gulf area and a pre-feasibility study to build innovation technology for the agri-food sector, also in Chinandega.
The meeting was attended by the foreign affairs ministers of Nicaragua and El Salvador, Denis Moncada and Carlos Castaneda, respectively, and Honduras' foreign affairs undersecretary María del Carmen Nasser.
Representatives of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei) and Spanish consulting firm IDOM, the entities respectively responsible for financing and preparing the master plan, were also present.
The officials set up a timetable to continue advancing the components of the plan. A new meeting between the presidents of the three countries, which is aimed at officially launching the completed master plan, has been tentatively scheduled for January.
Works on the master plan began in August last year.
