Chilean court upholds claim against Bocamina plants

Bnamericas

Chile's Concepción appeals court upheld a claim filed against Endesa and its Bocamina thermo plants by fishermen, civil society organizations and the Lota community in region VIII.

In an unanimous decision, the court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, according to a press release.

Given the probability that thermo plants Bocamina I and II's operations will continue to create additional negative environmental impact, the court believes it must safeguard the rights of the plaintiffs, the court said in the ruling.

The judges ordered the company to adopt a series of measures in order to avoid environmental damage. In addition, it enjoined the government to periodically monitor the operations at the thermo plants.
