Chilean waste management firm Inser has submitted an environmental impact study (EIS) for construction of a solid waste management facility in central-southern region VII. Planned investment for the project will be US$5mn, according to the EIS. The project submitted for evaluation is for the construction of a sustainable waste management landfill for domestic solid waste and/or similar waste produced in the region. If approved, construction is expected to take five months to complete, and to have a useful life of 15 years. During the first year of operations, the project is expected to have the capacity to receive 53,000t of solid waste, and after its 15 years in operations it will receive an average of 1.18Mm3 of domestic solid waste. The project would be located in the Linares province's Yerbas Buenas district, according to the documents submitted to the regional evaluation service SEA. The vote on the project by the regional SEA is expected to take place in December. For the full EIS, in Spanish, click here
