Costa Rica launches underpass tender

Costa Rica's public works and transport ministry (MOPT) has launched an international tender for the construction of an underpass at the La Bandera roundabout (in photo) in capital San José.

A non-mandatory clarification meeting is scheduled for February 19, and a visit to the project site has been set for the following day.

The deadline to submit bids is April 10, with the winner expected to be announced in July. Works are due to begin in November.

The project is one of three for the construction of underpasses along the city's Circunvalación beltway.

The other two underpasses will be built at the Garantías Sociales and the Antigua Gallito roundabouts.

All three will be financed with a loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei).

The United Nations Office for Project Services (Unops) is in charge of managing the works.

A contract has already been awarded for the Garantías Sociales underpass and work is underway. Bids submitted for the Antigua Gallito contract are currently being reviewed.

All three underpasses are due to be completed by 2021.
