Cuba steps up construction material distribution to aid hurricane recovery

Cuba is increasing the number of construction material distribution spots in Pinar del Río province, among the hardest hit by Hurricane Ian last month, from 35 to 98.
The increase will help infrastructure recovery and is a response to local councils requesting certain businesses be used as distribution spots, Communist Party outlet Granma reported the head of business group Vueltabajo, Tamara López, as saying.
López added that problems related to unaccounted resources that could not be sold and too few supplies have been solved.
Ian also damaged ICT infrastructure, including 1,800 telephone poles and cables. Eight transmission towers were damaged, which left over 600 sectors without mobile service.
