Dominican Republic to publish ICT infra sharing regulation

The Dominican Republic looks to reduce costs and visual pollution related to telecommunications networks by setting rules for companies to share basic infrastructure, the country's telecommunications regulator Indotel said.
The rules, which could come into force in the second half of the year, include regulations for companies to share access to basic infrastructure such as cable poles, ducts and antennas, as well as other connected facilities.
Indotel is looking "to save costs and reduce visual pollution ... as well as the disruption caused by civil works needed for the deployment of telecommunications infrastructure," Indotel added.
The regulator incorporated suggestions from the country's main telecom providers, Altice, Claro and Trilogy's Viva into the rules.
The high cost of infrastructure deployment led several countries to look for ways to formalize infrastructure sharing for telecommunications companies. Mexico is expected to publish this year the guidelines for companies to enter an infrastructure registry that is expected to go live in 2020.
