AES awards Dominican Republic combined cycle contract

Dominican Power Partners (DPP) awarded engineering firm Técnicas Reunidas (TR) a turnkey contract worth approximately US$140mn for the conversion of DPP's Los Mina thermo plant in the Dominican Republic to combined cycle.

TR will add two heat recovery steam generators and a steam turbine to the existing two gas turbines, the company said in a statement, increasing total capacity to 324MW from 210MW.

A final notice to proceed is expected from DPP in September, after which time construction is due to last 27 months.

DPP is a subsidiary of AES Dominicana, a branch of US power company AES.
