Brazil signs contracts from latest transmission auction

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, along with energy minister Bento Albuquerque and the director of regulator Aneel, André Pepitone (all pictured) on Monday signed the contracts awarded at the country's latest transmission line tender, held in December.

In total, the contracts will result in the construction of 7,152km of new lines and 14,819MVA of transformation capacity, with 13.2bn reais (US$3.4bn) expected in investments across 13 different states.

Bidders accepting the lowest annual revenues from operations were awarded 30-year concession contracts to build, operate and maintain power lines and associated substations.

The tender resulted in an average discount of 46% on the total revenue cap for the contracts. Higher discounts represent greater potential savings for final consumers, as the winning consortiums' revenues are considered when calculating electric power bills.
